Leipzig Mission Trip: An Update and Call to Prayer

This November, our church is excited to send a short-term mission team back to Germany to support our ministry partners at LeipzigProjekt. The team members are Matt Meyer, Faith Cho, Katherine Malanoski,  Tom Nicholas, Blake Parrott, and me, Stephen Day.

As you may recall from our team's visit in October 2023, we partnered with this vibrant church plant led by Pastor Andre Meyer. The team is going to provide practical support for a unique evangelistic outreach. The owners of a local pub have invited Andre to share a Christian message after their weekly Trivia Night. It's a regular event, and church members are often tied up running logistics. Our team will handle the technical support and childcare, freeing up the LeipzigProjekt members to build relationships and engage in Gospel conversations with their neighbors.

This partnership is bearing fruit in perhaps the most secular environment on the planet. LeipzigProjekt has grown from meeting in a rock-n-roll club to a congregation of 100 adults and 50 children—so many that they've outgrown their old space and have purchased a new building, which our church is helping to fund. Remarkably, their growth comes almost entirely from conversations and new conversions, not transfers from other churches. Children make up a third of the church. Our team will also spend three days in Frankfurt receiving training from Stephan Pues, Germany’s church planting director and learning about City to City Europe, the church planting organization that sent Andre. We pray that this prepares us to witness more boldly for Christ here in Richmond.

Please join us in covering this trip and our partners with prayer. Pray for Pastor Andre and his family as they lead the church in this post-Christian urban environment. Pray for the LeipzigProjekt congregation as they seek to share the hope of Jesus with their community. Specifically, pray that the Trivia Night outreach would open doors for the Gospel and that many would come to know Christ. Pray for our team's safety and cohesion in travel and for our effectiveness as they serve and learn alongside our German brothers and sisters. Lastly, pray for City Church, that we would all be excited to share the work that Jesus has done in our lives with our friends and neighbors.

Our team members are in the process of raising funds for the trip. If you’re interested in offering financial support, please visit our giving page.
