What’s your name?

Seth Huffman

How do you spend your days? (family, work, hobbies)

I work as a Fraud Analyst for a credit card company. I’m married to Lauren, and we have two kids, Emmy (2) and Miles (1). Outside of work, I enjoy running, cycling, reading, and listening to podcasts.

What part of town do you live in?

Glen Allen.

How long have you been going to City Church?

Six years.

How are you attending City Church these days?

In-person occasionally when serving, and otherwise virtually with my family.

What did you expect from 2020 when it started?

We were expecting the birth of our son Miles in February, so we anticipated a tiring but joyful year with two kids under 2, and we were excited to see our family grow.

The whole Huffman fam!

If you could describe 2020 in three words, what words would you choose?

Unexpected, disruptive, and reforming

What did the events of 2020 reveal to you about yourself and about Jesus?

I was reminded this year that the heart and the posture of Christ towards me is gentle. I was often exhausted, and the verse “Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:29) was a great comfort.

How have the events of 2020 pushed you to reimagine your story? How have they pushed you to reimagine your faith?

This year has taught me in new ways that it’s the person and work of Jesus that holds my life, through the best and hardest years. I found hope in remembering my story is a part of God’s bigger story, part of his redemption of this world, and although my circumstances change, God doesn’t change. He holds me firm.

What is your biggest hope for 2021?

My biggest hope for 2021 is connection and to grow in habits that foster connection to God, His Word, and to people.
