Spring Service Opportunities

We’re excited to share two wonderful service opportunities we have lined up for the spring. We encourage all members of the City Church community to get involved—either as individuals, households, or smaller groups (like City Groups or Bible studies).

Fox Elementary

Fox Elementary (located just a couple of blocks from where we worship) suffered a devastating fire in mid-February. We are working to care for this school community in two ways:

Supplies

In addition to the loss of the building, teachers are now navigating how to replenish their classroom supplies as they look to returning to in-person instruction at another space sometime soon.

Below you will find links to Amazon wishlists for two of these teachers, both of whom teach some of our City Kids.

In-Person Volunteers

Meanwhile, Fox students are currently virtually, which presents challenges for parents who are unable to be at home to supervise their kids’ online learning. In response to that need, First Baptist Church is organizing volunteers to supervise students at their church building at Monument and Arthur Ashe Boulevard. Time slots are from 7:45AM-9AM; 9AM-12PM; and 12PM-3PM. If you are interesting in serving in this way, please sign up here.

STEP/Jobs for Life

STEP/Jobs for Life, a longtime partner of City Church, works to connect the poor and marginalized in Richmond with the people are resources of the church through work-readiness classes and mentoring. We’ve got a couple of great opportunities to partner with them over the next few months:

Mentoring

The Elevate Team provides extended support to Jobs for Life graduates. Mentoring is a monthly Thursday evening commitment beginning March 17th. Sessions are 6PM-8:30PM. If you are interested in being a mentor, please fill out an application. We also invite you to learn more about the participants—if someone stands out to you, place your name in the mentor column.

Dinners

The Jobs for Life program is in need of volunteers to provide dinners for their Tuesday and Thursday evening classes beginning March 15th and running through June 16th. Learn more and sign up here.
