Fall 2022 at City Church

Fall programming at City Church kicks off next week! Check out what we’ve got planned…

City Groups

"Smaller groups" can mean a few different things: discipleship groups, women's or men's bible studies, or City Groups. City Groups are a place where you are known and loved at City Church–and also a place from which we are sent out into the world. All City Groups are led by trained lay-leaders from the congregation who receive continued oversight and support from our pastoral staff. City Groups meet at least twice a month for worship, Bible study, fellowship, and prayer.

We’ve got City Groups meeting all over Richmond and its surrounding neighborhoods.Check out our current list of City Groups here.

Sunday Formation

Sunday Formation is essentially our version of Sunday school. We’ve got classes for ages 4 through adults, and nursery care is provided for kids 3 and under. Beginning September 18th, we will meet from 5:30PM to 6:30PM for eight weeks (with a break on October 23rd). Dinner is provided for everyone, and no registration is required!

ADULT FORMATION

We’re excited to offer two Sunday Formation classes for adults this year:

  • Hospitality and the Gospel: This class will be taught by a rotating crew of City Church members and will explore the concept of hospitality within the context of the family, home, neighborhood, workplace, church, and more.

  • How to Love God: Harrison will teach this class—with the help of Robert Barnes and Julie Davis—exploring the Ten Commandments.

CHILDREN’S FORMATION

Children’s Formation is divided into three classes: preK-K, 1st and 2nd grades, and 3rd-5th grades. These classes are taught by volunteer leaders. Our preK-2nd graders will follow the Grow Curriculum, and our 3rd-5th graders will study New City Catechism.

(We are need of volunteers to serve at Children’s Formation teachers. If you are interested, please contact Katherine Malanoski, our Director of Children’s Ministry, at katherine@citychurchrva.com.)

MIDDLE SCHOOLERS & HIGH SCHOOLERS

Our Middle Schoolers will spend our Sunday Formation time going through a curriculum called Bible 101. Our high schoolers will spend the fall focusing on mentorship. Middle School and High School Sunday Formation is led by volunteer leaders and Adam Bailey, our Director of Student Ministry. If you have questions about Student Ministry at City Church, contact Adam at adam@citychurchrva.com.

Women’s Ministry

Our Women’s Ministry team will host two groups this fall:

  • Monday Evening Small Group: This group will meet on Monday evenings at 7:30PM beginning September 12th in room 300 at Grace Covenant. This small group will be a great time to grow in Christ through fellowship, accountability, scripture, and prayer. Register here—this group meets 3 weeks on/1 week off.

  • Wednesday Morning Bible Study: We’ll meet on Wednesday mornings, September 14th-November 16th, 9:30-11:30AM, in room 300 to study Ephesians. Childcare is available for a fee. Register here.

If you have questions about Women’s Ministry at City Church, contact Meg Haden, our Director of Women’s Ministry, at meg@citychurchva.com.

Men’s Ministry

Our Men’s Ministry team has several events planned for the coming months including a Men’s Field Day on September 24th, a father-son campout October 7th and 8th, and an oyster roast on November 4th. To stay update on Men’s Ministry at City Church, email Jason Cotton at cottonjason14@yahoo.com.

Faith & Work Lunches

Our Faith & Work Lunches were put on pause at the start of COVID, but we’re excited to bring them back this fall. These lunches take place at workplaces around town and give attendees a chance to talk about the cross-section of faith and vocation. To learn more, contact JB Burtch, our Director of Mentoring, at jb@citychurchrva.com.

Mentoring

We are kicking off a new mentoring program this fall in which City Church members and attendees are paired off and will meet once a month (September-December) to discuss topics like purpose, vocation, and community. If you didn’t get a chance to sign up to be mentored or to mentor, contact Harrison Ford at harrison@citychurchrva.com.
