City Kids Updates

This Sunday will bring a couple of changes to how we do things, City Kids-wise. These details were shared yesterday in our September City Kids Newsletter, be we wanted to share them church-wide in the event that you aren’t yet a subscriber to that newsletter or you have friends and family with little ones joining you on Sunday. Also: it's good for our whole church family to be aware of changes like this!

Move-Up Sunday
If your child has aged out of their current classroom on or before September 1st, you can transition to their new classroom this Sunday! This applies to nursery classrooms as well as grade school-aged children who are moving on to the next Children’s Worship class or the Children’s Worship graduation class.* We will have additional move-up dates in the winter and summer—January 8th and June 5th of 2022.

Please note: we realize that moving up nursery-age kids requires flexibility. If you would like to keep your child in his or her current nursery room OR move him or her up prior to the next Move-Up Sunday, contact Jennifer Murphy at jennifer@citychurchrva.com.

*A special note for rising 3rd graders: Our Children’s Worship graduation class will start on Sunday, September 19th during Sunday Worship, so you may choose either to attend Children’s Worship for one week or sit in the service this Sunday.

Children’s Worship Class Split and Check-In
This Sunday we will go back to two classes for Children’s Worship: Pre-K & Kindergarten and 1st and 2nd grades.

Along with the class split, we will implement a new check-in system for Children’s Worship classes. Starting this Sunday, children will need to be escorted by a parent or guardian (not an older sibling) to the Children’s Worship drop-off point in the Choir Room during greeting time—this room is located to the right when you are facing the front of the sanctuary.

Class teachers will be waiting with a paper list to check-in each child as they arrive; teachers must see and/or speak to an adult before taking the child(ren). Please make sure all children have their printed sticker name tag on before heading to check-in. Children will return to the sanctuary after communion as they have always done. This departure from our previous system allows us to make a safer transfer of custody from parent to volunteer and is a more visitor-friendly way of inviting families to participate.

Current Volunteer Needs
We are still in need of lots (73!) of volunteers to fill our City Kids rosters for the fall. The majority of these positions are one-week commitments. If you would be willing to serve in any of these ways, please contact Jennifer Murphy (Nursery) or Sarah Lyon (Children’s Worship and Formation) at jennifer@citychurchrva.com or sarah@citychurchrva.com.

  • Nursery Volunteers: (various dates) 25 people needed

  • Children’s Worship: (one-week commitments) 24 people needed

  • Children’s Worship: (three-week commitments) 4 people needed

  • Children’s Formation: (one-week commitments) 20 people needed

Please get in touch if you have any questions!
