Christmas Movie Night Update

This year, due to COVID and guidelines put in place by our governor to help safeguard public health, we were not planning on hosting our annual Christmas Pageant. We had been planning to film a version of the pageant and hosting an outdoor watch party on 12/12 but that too has been cancelled. So here is the new plan:

  • We are going to put together a short video of kids retelling the Christmas story in their own words! We want you to record your kids as they tell the Christmas story in whatever silly, cute, accurate, or inaccurate details they so choose. (Think Comedy Central’s “Drunk History”…though don’t give your kids alcohol!)

  • Jim will then mash it all up into one cohesive video to be released in December.

  • Instead of us all getting together in the parking lot, you'll be free to gather in your own homes for a movie night. Good news: we'll still be providing pizza and snacks! On Saturday 12/12, we will have a drive-through Pizza and Snacks pick up for families; grab some treats and a pizza on the way home to your movie night.

  • Our live watch party via Zoom of the Christmas story video (told by your kids) will only last about 15 minutes and then everyone is free to do whatever works best for your family.

Here are some details on filming:

  • Shoot in landscape mode and submit video via email, text, google drive, etc. to Jim (jim@citychurchrva.com / 757.646.8813) by Wednesday 12/2.

  • Encourage your kids to add details, be silly, use props, and film the whole thing. Honestly if everyone just recounts exactly what is written in the Bible….while it will make us proud, it won’t be very entertaining to watch!

  • Would you like to swing by the church between 4-5pm on Saturday, December 12th to pick up your movie night treats (pizza, cookies, popcorn, hot cocoa, etc)? Sign up here, or just reply to this email, so we know to expect you!

  • Maybe invite a friend, neighbor, or covid-bubble partner to join you for an outdoor Christmas movie!

  • If you’d like to get a costume from Jennifer for your kid to wear as they recount the story, they will be available for pick up the next two Sundays at church or you can connect with Jennifer to arrange it. Your child is welcome to wear any costume of theirs, or ours, but regular clothes work just as well!

So, in short, here's what you could do to take part:

  • Film your kids re-telling the Christmas story and send the video to Jim by 12/2

  • RSVP to swing by our drive-through to pick up a movie night kit on 12/12 at 4pm.

  • Join the short zoom call to watch the video with us, then plan a fun movie night of your own and enjoy the treats!

Together in Christ,

Jim Pulizzi & Jennifer Murphy
