New Partners in Ministry

In many places of the world, there are few churches present where one can hear teachings from scripture about the person of Jesus and meet Christians attending there. At City Church we prayerfully partner with ministries starting new churches and training local Christians in leadership. Currently we partner with ministries in Vietnam, China, Uganda, the Middle East, and the Czech republic.

As a church we recently added two more ministry commitments to enable us to focus more intently on two countries in particular: Czech Republic and Uganda. Both of these nations are hubs for culture and commerce in their regions, influencing the countries around them. Although culturally the two are quite different each is populated with people made in the image of God, endowed with dignity, in need of Jesus Christ as their Savior. It is our hope we not only further the work in these places but also humbly learn from our ministry partners and their congregations so that we each our mutually encouraging one another.

Jessica Forbes

Originally from the great state of Georgia, Jessica has been serving on a church planting mission team in Prague, Czech Republic for the last five years. City Church has sent two summer teams to Prague--one in 2014 and another in 2015--and while there they spend time with Jessica to encourage her in her work and learn about ministries to the city. Friendships formed and we see a great opportunity to help her continue in her work there.

Ninety percent of Czechs consider themselves atheists, and there is scarcely any Christian presence in the city. Jessica with another family we partner with, Phil and Shanna Davis serve at Faith Community Church. Jessica’s roles include leading Bible studies, helping with Sunday worship, meeting neighbors in the community and participating in anti-human trafficking efforts around the city.

Ben and Kim Church

After studying at Covenant Seminary, the Churches spent their first year at New Hope Uganda, a ministry to the fatherless that began in response to the loss of life in the Ugandan Bush War (1981-86), studying the local language and culture of central Uganda, and developing a relationship with a local church, Christ Centered Ministry. Two other important aspects of Ben’s work have been assisting refugees out of war-torn South Sudan to safety in Uganda and theological/Bible training at Westminster Christian Institute Uganda. They are currently on Home Ministry Assignment and plan to return to Uganda in early 2017 to begin forming a team to plant a church.

When they return to Kampala, Ben will also continue to teach classes at Westminster and lead mercy efforts for his team. Kim is a nurse who in addition to caring for their children takes part in medical relief.

Kim’s family lives in Petersburg and they will be joining us for worship in December so keep an eye out for them. Pray for Kim as she was due to deliver their fourth child November 16th.

Here's a short video of where they're headed:
