PREPARE & CONNECT

This Week’s Sermon: Our series “Songs of Summer” continues this week as Erik preaches on Psalm 15. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday’s service.

City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics will take place on Friday, September 11th (7-9:30pm) and Saturday, September 12th (9:30am to noon) at Grace Covenant. City Church Basics explains who we are as a church and what it means to be a member. It is a necessary step towards formally joining the church, although membership is not required. Save the Date: Fall Women's Retreat: Our Fall women's retreat is scheduled for Saturday, November 7th through Sunday, November 8th at Wintergreen Resort. Our featured speaker will be Courtney Thompson. Early registration will begin August 30th--so keep an eye out for more details!

Session Meeting: The City Church Session will meet this Sunday, August 23rd. If you have any questions, concerns, or prayer requests you'd like addressed, please contact Erik at erik@citychurchrva.com.

Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. This summer we will pray through selected Psalms together, learning how to use these Biblical songs to shape how we talk with God and how we live into the Christian story. Please join us tomorrow, August 20th, at 7am to pray. Meet in the Church office, 3rd floor at Grace Covenant. Enter in the back entrance of building. We hope to see you there. (City Church prayer takes place every other Thursday.)

Welcome Back Sunday! All are welcome to join us for dinner immediately after our service on August 23rd to celebrate Welcome Back Sunday (previously known as “Fall Kick-Off”). This is a time when will share a meal, reconnect with students coming back for the new semester, and learn about what we’ve got coming up in the fall. Richmond Czechyourself: Join the City Church Prague Team on Tuesday, August 25th at 7:30pm for an evening of stories, snacks, fun, and grand tales of the adventures they experienced during their trip back in July. View the Evite here–we’ll meet at Julia Sjostrom’s place (2104 Stuart Avenue).

City Group Leaders: Join our pastor overseeing City Groups, Joshua Earman, on Saturday, August 29th from 10-11:45 am for our Fall launch meeting. Current and new leaders will attend to hear this year’s specific emphasis for City Groups and how leaders will receive training and oversight from Joshua and the session of City Church. First RUF @ VCU Large Group! The first large group of the 2015-2016 school year will be on Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm at the Baptist Collegiate Ministry (819 S. Cathedral Place). We’ll be studying a selection of Jesus’s parables. For more information contact Jacob Lee at jacob.lee@ruf.org.

Conversation Partners Needed: In August, VCU begins receiving international students from around the world. VCU’s Global Education Office offers students opportunities to connect and form friendships with the community through a conversation partner or friendship/family partner. If you’re interested in being a conversation partner or friend, please contact Barrett Clark at Barretteclark@gmail.com or 804-241-4734.

Looking for new City Group Leaders: City Groups are small groups of people who meet at least twice a month for Bible study, meals, service, and prayer. All groups are led by trained lay-leaders from the congregation who receive continued oversight and support from our pastoral staff. If you are interested in leading a City Group for the first time contact joshua@citychurchrva.com for more information.

Knitting Ministry: Our knitting ministry continues this Fall as several members of City Church will gather regularly to knit baby items for the East End Pregnancy Test & Help Center, preemie items for hospitals, and teaching basic knitting to anyone who wants to learn.
