Meet Your Summer Interns!

We are excited to announce our Summer Interns for 2015! Our hope is that these internships will serve City Church by providing additional staff support to key areas of our ministry over the summer. These internships reflect our commitment to the continued development of leaders within the Church and for God’s Kingdom.

Doug McBride will serve as our Discipleship Intern. Doug grew up in Hanover County, went to college at William & Mary, and returned to the Richmond-area after graduation to begin his career. He works downtown for a private mortgage lender and has been a member of City Church for two years. This summer he will focus on building community between the men at church, meeting with newcomers who are seeking a church family, and helping organize the men's summer Bible study.

Blake Stack, a deacon and charter member of City Church, will serve as our Mercy & Justice Intern. Blake will work with others to strengthen local mercy and justice initiatives, co-lead a short-term service-oriented trip to Hope for the Inner City in Chattanooga, and collaborate with churches across the city that are interested in addressing systemic issues of poverty within Richmond. Blake currently works with students who participate nonprofit internships through the Center of Civic Engagement at the University of Richmond. He and his wife, Lindsey, moved to Richmond from the Philadelphia area in 2008. They are parents to a two-year-old boy and have another baby on the way.

Jenna Murphy will work alongside Meg Haden as our Women's Ministry Intern this summer. She will facilitate and oversee the women's Bible study, work to build relationships with new women visiting City Church, take part in one-on-one discipleship, and help plan some of the church's summer social events. Jenna was born in Richmond, moved to Indiana when she was 15, and came back to Richmond in 2007. She's been a member of City Church since 2011.

We've been blessed with two Children's Ministry Interns this summer: Gretchen Mull and Hannah Sullivan. They'll spend their summer helping Jennifer Murphy plan for the future of children's ministry at City Church. This undertaking will include recruiting volunteers, providing resources for parents, and creating means of caring for the smallest of God's kingdom at City Church. We will also be orchestrating the first ever Backyard Bible Club, engaging ages four through fifth grade in creative ways to learn more about God's love and commitment to us.

Gretchen came to Richmond from Springfield, Virginia to attend VCU where she is a student in Art Education and Craft & Material Studies. She's been attending City Church for the last 10 months. Hannah grew up in Mechanicsville and moved to Richmond in 2013 to study International Social Justice (with a minor in Economics) at VCU. She also leads Young Life at Lee Davis High School, is currently training for a marathon, and really loves Cheez-its.
