Announcements, 11.21.15

Before we get to the announcements, the Woodfins asked that we pass along this note to the congregation... Dear City Church family,

Tracye, Ethan and I want to express how grateful we are for each of you loving us so well during this devastating time. Thank you for being so attentive to our needs, for groaning with us in prayer, and for showing us Christ’s deep love.

Grant, Tracye and Ethan Woodfin

Thank you to everyone who has provided support to Grant, Tracye, and Ethan as they grieve the loss of their sweet Caleb. We will continue to walk alongside the Woodfins through this ongoing process, and right now we have a meal schedule set up to provide them with dinners over the next several months. If you're interested in serving them in this way, visit takethemameal.com to sign up. The log-in and password are Woodfin.

PREPARE & CONNECT

This Week's Sermon: Erik will preach on Acts 17:10-15 on Sunday. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday's service.

Adult Formation Class (Childcare RSVPs Needed): Our next Adult Formation Class is entitled “Discipleship: Helping one another follow Jesus.” A disciple is a student who follows and learns from another. The last command that Jesus gave to his followers was the command to go and make disciples. This six-week course will train you how to help others follow Jesus through an intentional one on one relationship. All are welcome! Sundays 3:00-3:45pm in Room 303. Questions? Contact joshua@citychurchrva.com. If you need childcare for any (or all) of these sessions, please RSVP using this form. RSVPs for childcare are needed by noon on the Friday before each class so we can plan accordingly.

Pageant Rehearsal THIS SUNDAY: Rehearsal for December 5th's Christmas Pageant will take place THIS SUNDAY immediately following the service. We'll meet in the Fellowship Hall for a quick pizza dinner before getting started.

GATHER

City Church Christmas Pageant, Party, and Sing-Along! Our Christmascelebration will take place on Saturday, December 5th here at Grace Covenant. We’ll kick things off with the pageant at 5:30, followed by dinner, and a fantastic Christmas carol sing-along. Please bring a dish to share and invite your friends to join us--this event is a wonderul way to introduce new people to our church community! (See the announcement below for how you can help with this event!)

Serving in Gilpin Court: Come hit the streets of Gilpin Court! Richmond is designing a Bus Rapid Transit system that will, among other benefits, provide a new way for our city's marginalized population to get to jobs. Join us on Saturday, November 21st from 9:30-12:30 (lunch will be provided) as we go door-to-door to meet the needs of bus-riders in Gilpin by briefing and inviting residents to provide much-needed input on where/when/how they commute. We will each pair with members of Victory Life Fellowship--a church local to Gilpin Court--as we meet Gilpin residents. This input will then be submitted to GRTC to design the new bus system. For more information, contact nathan.t.mathews@gmail.com.

SERVE

Meals for the Days: We are happy to report that Sarah Day is home and recovering after a brief (but scary) stay in the hospital last week. To help Sarah get back on her feet, we'll be providing meals for her, Stephen, Daisy, and Calvin over the next couple weeks. If you're interested in serving them in this way, visit takethemameal.com to sign up. The log-in and password are Day.

Volunteering at John B. Cary Elementary: Willing to use a lunch hour to help elementary students stay on pace with reading and math? City Church partners with John B Cary Elementary school by providing much-needed tutoring and mentoring. Any help is useful, and volunteers are trained by teachers in what to do. If you are interested in exploring this opportunity or have any questions, contact Stephen Day at stephenday01@gmail.com or 919-906-7329.

Help with the Christmas Party: Food and elves needed to help with City Church's Christmas Party on December 5th following our pageant! We are looking for volunteers to help make finger foods and we are looking for hands to help with the party and with party clean up! This event is a great way to welcome friends and our church family as we celebrate Jesus' birth together. Sign up online here. For food questions, contact Kate Allen (katelynnallen@gmail.com), to volunteer, contact Shannon Reppard (shannonreppard@gmail.com). Thank you, and Merry Christmas!

Thanksgiving Hospitality for International Students: VCU Global Education Office is in search of families and individuals interested in showing friendship and hospitality by inviting international students and scholars into their homes to share Thanksgiving dinner. Thanksgiving is a great opportunity for international students to be in a home, to share a meal and their culture with Americans and to gain a better understanding of American culture. If you’re interested, download a volunteer form here (PDF), or contact Pamela Haney, Student Engagement Coordinator, at pohaney@vcu.edu

CrossOver Clinic Volunteers Needed: City Church will be serving at CrossOver Clinic on Saturday, December 5th. We are in need of physicians, nurses, Spanish interpreters, and administrative help. Please contact Leah Eldrige (leah.j.eldridge@gmail.com) and/or visit our sign-up form to volunteer.

Supporting The Gray Haven Project: The Gray Haven Project demonstrates Christ’s hope by helping human trafficking survivors experience freedom and restoration. Through supportive services, counseling, healing activities, meals and more, they provide community and a healthy lifestyle to the individuals affected. If you are interested in learning more about their current needs (gift cards for therapy sessions, assisting with a Thanksgiving meal, December holiday gift project, etc.) or would like to be updated on future volunteer requests, please contact Kelly Gilgannon (klgilgannon@gmail.com) for details and questions.
