COMING UP AT CITY CHURCH...

Leadership Basics: The first Leadership Basics session will meet on Sunday, September 27th, from 9-11am. These sessions will provide a dynamic and interactive introduction to foundational Biblical principles of leadership that will be useful for ministry in the home, in the church, and in the city. Erik, Joshua, and other leaders from City Church will be leading the sessions which will take place at the Commonwealth Chapel building located at 1836 Park Avene at the corner of Meadow. The other dates for Leadership Basics this Fall are: 10/11, 10/25, 11/15, and 11/22. Please RSVP to Val (val@citychurchrva.com) by next Wednesday so we can prepare materials for you.

Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. This summer we will pray through selected Psalms together, learning how to use these Biblical songs to shape how we talk with God and how we live into the Christian story. Please join us tomorrow, Sepember 17th, at 7am to pray. Meet in the Church office, 3rd floor at Grace Covenant. Enter in the back entrance of building. We hope to see you there. (City Church prayer takes place every other Thursday.)

City Groups: City Groups are groups of adults attending City Church who meet weekly in someone's home for the purpose of knowing Jesus more, serving others, and praying for our city. All groups are open and City Group leaders can be contacted via the church website for more info. Questions? Email Joshua Earman at joshua@citychurchrva.com

Women’s Retreat: Our 2015 Fall Women’s Retreat will take place Saturday, November 7th through Sunday, November 8th at Wintergreen Resort. Courtney Thompson of RUF at UVA will be our speaker. Registration is already underway, and prices go up after September 18th, so don’t delay! Register for the retreat here. And please do NOT let cost prohibit your from attending; please contact Meg Haden (meg@citychurchrva.com) to discuss financial assistance if needed.

Women’s Fall Bible Studies: Our fall Bible studies begin September 14th and 16th, Monday evenings, 7:30-9pm OR Wednesday mornings, 9:30-11:30am (childcare provided) . Please join us this fall as we study the book of Ephesians! In this letter, Paul writes of the amazing community that God has created among believers through Jesus and also encourages us to mature in our faith and life with Christ and one another. Please register using this form so we can plan for booklets and childcare. PLEASE NOTE: On September 23rd, our Wednesday morning study will meet for a playdate at Trista Shah's home (email val@citychurchrva.com for address). There will not be childcare--we'll use this time to hangout and let the kids play together.

Hope for People-Pleasers: Fearing Less, Loving More: One of the deepest, most common roots of our relational problems is the act of replacing God with people. Whether it is labeled peer pressure, people-pleasing, or need for attention and approval it is seen in how we overachieve, feel easily embarrassed, or get angry when are faults are exposed. This is a universal problem. This course examines those roots and outlines God’s antidote. We'll meet on six Sundays (beginning September 13th) in room 303 at Grace Covenant from 2:45-3:45pm. Childcare available by request (please RSVP for childcare here). Email joshua@citychurchrva.com for info.

Church Harvest Party! City Church’s Annual Harvest Party is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd. We’ll meet out at Smithfield Farm (1464 Newtown Road, St. Stephens Church, VA 23148) to share a meal, play some games, and enjoy each other’s company. More details here!

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES...

Welcome, Baby Hendrix! Benton Marshall ("Ben") Hendrix was born on Saturday, September 12th, weighing in at 7 pounds, 8 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. We'll provide meals for Rebecca, Mack, and Wesley for several weeks beginning at the end of September, so stay tuned for details on how to sign up for that!

Meals for City Church Families: We are currently providing meals for two City Church families: the Hadens (who welcomed Marnie on September 7th) and the Bryants (who welcomed Esther on September 9th). If you're interested in serving them in this way, visit takethemameal.com to sign up. Please use the family's last name as the log-in and the baby's name for the password.

Serve with CARITAS! CARITAS is right around the corner--October 3rd through 10th. Please consider being a part of this great opportunity as we partner with Grace Covenant to show the compassion of Jesus to the homeless community by volunteering to make meals, shuttle guests to showers, lead Bible studies, play games, and exchange stories. A variety of volunteering options are available on our online sign-up sheet. This is a great activity for City Groups or for individuals. Please contact Caroline Garrett at cgarrett17@gmail.com or 703-201-0508 with questions.
