Prepping for the UCI World Road Championships

The UCI World Road Championships will take place here in Richmond September 19th through 27th. Grace Covenant sits right in the thick of much of the action, but City Church services and events will still take place according to schedule. We'll likely feel the greatest impact on September 20th and September 27th. Races will take place along Monument Avenue just before those services. Allen and Lombardy Avenues will be closed for the duration of those races, but only for traffic control purposes. We've been assured by UCI's Community Engagement Director that we WILL have access to the Grace Covenant parking lot via those roads--just be sure to tell the traffic police stationed at these spots that you are attending a church service at Grace Covenant, and they will direct you through. Each of the races taking place on those days will end shortly after our services begin, so we don't expect issues when leaving in the evening.

If the church parking lot is full, you will need to park elsewhere. To figure out driving routes and additional parking options, visit navigate.richmond2015.com where you'll be able to access visual and narrative explanations of what to expect each day of the race. Car pooling, biking, and walking to church on the days of the race are highly recommended, if you can swing it. If not, add in a some extra travel time, and you should be just fine. And if you get to church early, you might even have the chance to watch some of the race!

As always, If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to get in touch with a member of the City Church staff.
