Announcements, 7.22.15

This Week’s Sermon: Our series “Songs of Summer” continues this week as Joshua preaches on Psalm 73. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday’s service.

City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics will take place on Friday, September 12th (7-9:30pm) and Saturday, September 13th (9:30am to noon) at Grace Covenant. City Church Basics explains who we are as a church and what it means to be a member. It is a necessary step towards formally joining the church, although membership is not required. If you’re interested in taking part in this next session, please RSVP to Val Catrow ( Contact Erik ( with questions.

Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. This summer we will pray through selected Psalms together, learning how to use these Biblical songs to shape how we talk with God and how we live into the Christian story. Please join us tomorrow, July 23rd, at 7am to pray. Meet in the Church office, 3rd floor at Grace Covenant. Enter in the back entrance of building. We hope to see you there. (City Church prayer takes place every other Thursday.)

Summer Bible Studies: Our men’s and women’s Bible studies are in full swing, but please note: you are welcome to join us at any time. While the study has a running theme of “Redeeming Frienship”, each lesson is self-contained. The women meet Tuesdays from 7:30-9pm and the men meet Wednesdays, also from 7:30-9. Both groups will meet on the third floor of Grace Covenant. The Bible studies will go through August with a few breaks through the summer. Contact Jenna Murphy ( or Doug McBride ( with any questions.

Save the Date: Welcome Back Sunday! All are welcome to join us for dinner immediately after our service on August 23rd to celebrate Welcome Back Sunday (previously known as “Fall Kick-Off”). This is a time when will share a meal, reconnect with students coming back for the new semester, and learn about what we’ve got coming up in the fall. Evite coming soon–and if you’re interested in helping out with this event, please contact Val Catrow at

STEP VBS Volunteers Needed ASAP! STEP's Victory Reading program is an after school tutoring program for students who go to Carver Elementary school which is located in the Jackson Ward area. The kids are ages 4-8 and the program focuses on teaching the Bible and fighting poverty by increasing reading skills and character development. This week they need help with VBS from July 20th to 23rd, from 3-6pm in the afternoon. VBS will include crafts, a cookout, and a community outing along with teaching the kids about Jesus. Contact if interested.

Mercy Fund on Sunday: We will take up a special mercy fund offering at Sunday’s service, as we always do on the last Sunday of the month. Whatever is given will be kept separate from our general budget and will be used to aid those in our congregation, and in our community, who have emergency needs. Please prayerfully consider what you might give.
