This Week's Sermon: Our "Songs of Summer" series continues this week as Erik preaches on Psalm 13. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday's service.

New City Church Pastor! With great excitement we want to introduce Joshua Earman as City Church’s new pastor, effective July 5th. Joshua is married to Katie and they have four children: Anna (9), Beth (8), Eva (6), and Isaac (4). Both Joshua and his wife Katie are natives of Virginia and graduates of James Madison University. After working with Cru for 8 years (in Harrisonburg and in China), the Earmans went to St. Louis where Joshua attended Covenant Seminary. For the last two years they have lived and ministered at a church outside of Philadelphia. We look forward to their move to Richmond and ask you to pray for them during this time of transition. If you are interested in seeing Joshua’s resume or the description for his role at City Church, please contact Val ( For general questions about Joshua joining the City Church staff, feel free to contact Erik (

Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer: dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. This summer we will pray through selected Psalms together, learning how to use these Biblical songs to shape how we talk with God and how we live into the Christian story. Please join us tomorrow, June 25th, at 7am to pray. Meet in the Church office, 3rd floor at Grace Covenant. Enter in the back entrance of building. We hope to see you there. (City Church prayer takes place every other Thursday.)

Summer Bible Studies Cookout!: Summer Bible studies are on a break next week, but join us for a cookout! We will provide the burgers, hot dogs, and buns — please bring a side or drink to share. Join us Tuesday, June 30, at 7pm at Doug McBride’s house: 1406 Little John Road 23227. All are welcome! Contact Doug McBride ( or Jenna Murphy ( with questions.

Welcome, Baby Murphy! Micah Ellis Murphy was born on Sunday, June 21st weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. We will provide meals for Jennifer, James, and Micah's proud big brothers, Jack and Eli, for several weeks as they adjust to life at home as a family of five. If you're interested in serving them in this way, please visit The log-in and password are 'murphy'. Contact Valerie Catrow ( with questions.

Mercy Fund on Sunday: We will take up a special mercy fund offering at Sunday’s service, as we always do on the last Sunday of the month. Whatever is given will be kept separate from our general budget and will be used to aid those in our congregation, and in our community, who have emergency needs. Please prayerfully consider what you might give.

Volunteer with Backyard Bible Club! We are in need of several volunteers to make BBC possible, so we hope you’ll consider offering your time. Some volunteer positions require daily attendance, while others allow you to be more selective about which days you can serve. We are so grateful for any time you can give! To sign up, please visit this link. If you have questions volunteering with BBC (or BBC-related questions in general), please contact Hannah Sullivan at or Gretchen Mull at
