This Week’s Sermon: Joe Brown from West End Presbyterian Church will kick off our summer series “Songs of Summer” with a sermon on Psalm 19 on Sunday. We encourage you to read ahead as a way to prepare for this week’s service.

New City Church Pastor! With great excitement we want to introduce Joshua Earman as City Church’s new pastor, effective July 5th. Joshua is married to Katie and they have four children: Anna (9), Beth (8), Eva (6), and Isaac (4). Both Joshua and his wife Katie are natives of Virginia and graduates of James Madison University. After working with Cru for 8 years (in Harrisonburg and in China), the Earmans went to St. Louis where Joshua attended Covenant Seminary. For the last two years they have lived and ministered at a church outside of Philadelphia. We look forward to their move to Richmond and ask you to pray for them during this time of transition. If you are interested in seeing Joshua’s resume or the description for his role at City Church, please contact Val ( For general questions about Joshua joining the City Church staff, feel free to contact Erik (

Backyard Bible Club Registration: Our first-ever Backyard Bible Club (BBC) is coming in July! Kids ages 4 through 5th grade graduates are invited to join us July 6th through 10th at Scuffletown Park from 6pm to 7:30pm to sing songs, play games, and learn more about Jesus and His love for them! The registration form can be found right here on the City Church website. And please encourage your kids to invite their friends! If you have questions about BBC, please contact Jennifer Murphy at

Sign Up for Text Message Updates: You can now opt-in to receive updates and reminders from City Church via text message. Don’t worry, we won’t be blowing up your phone every five minutes. The plan is to use this as a means to communicate important pieces of information quickly. To opt-in, Text the phrase @citychurch to 23559. You should receive a confirmation message within a few seconds.

Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. This summer we will pray through selected Psalms together, learning how to use these Biblical songs to shape how we talk with God and how we live into the Christian story. Please join us tomorrow, June 1th, at 7am to pray. Meet in the Church office, 3rd floor at Grace Covenant. Enter in the back entrance of building. We hope to see you there. (City Church prayer takes place every other Thursday.)

Summer Bible Studies: Please join us for a study on “Redeeming Friendship” this summer. The Women’s Study will meet Tuesdays from 7:30-9pm and the Men’s Study will meet Wednesdays from 7:30-9. Both groups will meet on the third floor of Grace Covenant. The Bible studies will go through August with a few breaks through the summer. Contact Meg Haden ( or Doug McBride ( with any questions. Please note: We realize that summer schedules can be tricky with kids out of school, vacation time, etc. If you can't make it to all of the sessions, that is OK! The study is structured in a way that, should you miss a week or two, you'll still be able to jump right into the conversation. We'd love to see you whenever you can make it!

Richmond City Young Life’s Fundraising Dessert Reception: All are invited to John Marshall High School (4225 Old Brook Road) on Monday, June 15th at 7pm to learn more about (and offer encouragement and support to) Richmond City Young Life. Volunteer with Backyard Bible Club! We are in need of several volunteers to make BBC possible, so we hope you’ll consider offering your time. Some volunteer positions require daily attendance, while others allow you to be more selective about which days you can serve. We are so grateful for any time you can give! To sign up, please visit this link. If you have questions volunteering with BBC (or BBC-related questions in general), please contact Jennifer Murpy at
