PREPARE & CONNECT
This Week's Sermon: Erik will preach on Ephesians 1:15-23 on Sunday. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for the service.
New City Church Pastor! With great excitement we want to introduce Joshua Earman as City Church’s new pastor, effective July 5th. Joshua is married to Katie and they have four children: Anna (9), Beth (8), Eva (6), and Isaac (4). Both Joshua and his wife Katie are natives of Virginia and graduates of James Madison University. After working with Cru for 8 years (in Harrisonburg and in China), the Earmans went to St. Louis where Joshua attended Covenant Seminary. For the last two years they have lived and ministered at a church outside of Philadelphia. We look forward to their move to Richmond and ask you to pray for them during this time of transition. If you are interested in seeing Joshua’s resume or the description for his role at City Church, please contact Val (firstname.lastname@example.org). For general questions about Joshua joining the City Church staff, feel free to contact Erik (email@example.com).
Backyard Bible Club Registration: Our first-ever Backyard Bible Club (BBC) is coming in July! Kids ages 4 through 5th grade graduates are invited to join us July 6th through 10th at Scuffletown Park from 6pm to 7:30pm to sing songs, play games, and learn more about Jesus and His love for them! The registration form can be found right here on the City Church website. And please encourage your kids to invite their friends! If you have questions about BBC, please contact Jennifer Murphy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sign Up for Text Message Updates: You can now opt-in to receive updates and reminders from City Church via text message. Don’t worry, we won’t be blowing up your phone every five minutes. The plan is to use this as a means to communicate important pieces of information quickly. To opt-in, Text the phrase @citychurch to 23559. You should receive a confirmation message within a few seconds.
Children's Worship on Sunday: Typically on 5th Sundays, the Children's Worship kids have the opportunity to stay in "big church" with their parents, but this month on May 31st, there will be a special class for your kids during worship, led by Leland Bonkovsky and a couple of the other Prague mission trip team members. They will discuss the team's upcoming trip to Prague and how the Children's Worship kids can offer some very special help.
Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. This summer we will pray through selected Psalms together, learning how to use these Biblical songs to shape how we talk with God and how we live into the Christian story. Please join us tomorrow, May 28th, at 7am to pray. Meet in the Church office, 3rd floor at Grace Covenant. Enter in the back entrance of building. We hope to see you there. (City Church prayer takes place every other Thursday.)
Rapid Transit Forum: This Sunday evening, City Church will host Min. Dominic Carter of RVA Rapid Transit to learn about their efforts to build a citizen-led movement to bring Bus Rapid Transit to metro Richmond. Bus Rapid Transit is a modern, reliable, convenient form of public transportation that will greatly increase job access for our low-income neighbors. We will meet from 5:45 to 6:45 pm in the Chapel. Questions? Contact Brittany Clyburn (email@example.com) or Blake Stack (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Women’s Summer Social: Come and join women from City Church for an evening of drinks, snacks, and desserts! We’ll meet at Liz Thomson’s house (3314 Hanover Avenue) on June 2nd from 7pm to 9pm. This will be a great evening to kick off the summer and spend time with new and old friends. Bring a drink or a snack to share! To RSVP, please visit the Evite or email Meg Haden (email@example.com).
Men's Get-Together: All City Church men are invited to meet on Wednesday evening, June 3rd, at Ardent Craft Beers (3200 W. Leigh Street) at 7:30 PM. This will serve as the kickoff to the Men's Summer Bible study which will meet on Wednesday evenings, beginning June 10, from 7:30-9 on the third floor of Grace Covenant. Hope to see you there and feel free to invite others.
EEPC Walk for Life: The East End Pregnancy Test and Help Center would like to invite you to participate in our first Walk for Life. Join us for a non-competitive 1.5 mile walk and family-friendly picnic celebration. To be held June 27th, 9am, gathering at Patrick Henry Park (25 and E. Broad Streets). For more information or to register online, please visit rva4life.org or contact Mary Ann Copetillo at firstname.lastname@example.org
Volunteer with Backyard Bible Club! We are in need of several volunteers to make BBC possible, so we hope you’ll consider offering your time. Some volunteer positions require daily attendance, while others allow you to be more selective about which days you can serve. We are so grateful for any time you can give! To sign up, please visit this link. If you have questions volunteering with BBC (or BBC-related questions in general), please contact Jennifer Murpy at email@example.com.
Mercy Fund on Sunday: We will take up a special mercy fund offering at Sunday’s service, as we always do on the last Sunday of the month. Whatever is given will be kept separate from our general budget and will be used to aid those in our congregation, and in our community, who have emergency needs. Please prayerfully consider what you might give.
