Announcements, 4.1.15

This Week's Sermon: Erik will preach on John 20:1-10 this Sunday. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare this this week's service.

No Children's Worship on Sunday: There will be no Children's Worship this Sunday. We encourage parents to worship with their children and to see it as an opportunity to teach them about the service and to involve them in our celebration of Jesus' resurrection. (Nursery care will still be available for ages 0 through 3.) Men’s Overnight: The 2015 Men’s Overnight will take place from noon on Saturday, May 2nd, to noon on Sunday, May 3rd, at Chanco on the James (about an hour from Richmond). Registration is $40 for tents or bunkhouse beds and $60 for interior double occupancy rooms. Dinner and breakfast are included but the rest is BYOB. Sign up here so we can plan accordingly. Questions? Contact Frank Allen (

New Parking Policy: Grace Covenant instituted a new parking policy this week that will require visitors to place temporary permits on their rear view mirrors when visiting the building outside of church service hours (i.e. you won't need a permit on Sundays or during special church services). For more information on this new policy, please read this post on the City Church website.

Good Friday Service: We will hold a Good Friday service on April 3rd at 7pm at Grace Covenant. The Good Friday service is a somber service of Lessons and Songs to help us mark the Passion of Jesus Christ our Lord. (Childcare will not be provided during this service.)

Easter Event: ALL are welcome to join us on Saturday, April 4th from 4pm to 6:30pm at The Stone House at Forest Hill Park for an Easter celebration! We will have a story time and egg hunt for the kids starting at 4:30pm. Dinner will begin at 5pm–it’s potluck so please bring a dish to share (you can sign up to bring a specific dish by clicking this link). Please invite your friends, as this is a great way to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior with friends who don’t yet know Jesus. You can access a printable/sharable invitation by visiting this link. Contact Jennifer Murphy ( with questions.

Women's Happy Hours: Bring a friend and join other women from City Church for  Happy Hours from 5:30-7:30pm around town next week. Come to one or come to all!  5:30-7:30 Tuesday at Cafe Caturra, Wednesday at Shyndygz, and Thursday at Pasture. Contact Meg Haden ( with questions.

Feast or Famine: From feast to famine, the Bible is laden with passages about food. Hungry to know more? Join us for a dinner series exploring the roles bread, wine, and meat play in the relationship between God and his people. We'll meet 3 times this spring to hear from an expert on each of those foods, explore scripture, and gather around the table together. There will be a participation fee of $35 to cover ingredients, dates will include 4/25, 5/31, and 6/27. Space is limited. Contact Ann Douglas Enghauser ( or 804-247-2995) to learn more or sign up.

Good Friday Blood Drive: As we remember the reconciling, life giving grace of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection, we are grateful for this opportunity to unite in offering the life giving gift of blood. On average, every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion, and this is a precious gift that cannot be manufactured but only comes through the generosity of donors. We invite you to join us (along with Grace Covenant and St. James) in service to God and our neighbors and partnership with the American Red Cross as we seek to provide 100 successful blood donations. All support is welcome, and if you are unable to donate yourself, we encourage you to consider seeking a substitute donor or volunteering your time. The blood drive will take place in the Grace Covenant Fellowship Hall on Friday, April 3rd from 2pm to 7pm. For more information contact Mary Conkright at To sign up to donate, visit this link and enter “goodfriday” to be directed to our sign-up form.

Stewards of Children Training: City Church will host Stewards of Children Training, a nationally recognized sexual abuse prevention training that educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Typically, our mentality toward the idea of sexual abuse is, "it won't happen to my child, or anyone I know." We hope and pray that this is true, but, based on the statistic that 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused before they are 18, the reality is you will most likely know someone who was sexually abused at some point in their life, if you don't already. This course will take place on Sunday, April 19th from 1:00pm-3:30pm in room 311 at Grace Covenant. Representatives from Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) will conduct the course. All are welcome to attend--feel free to invite others outside of City Church. As April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Greater Richmond SCAN is offering this training free of charge. If you’re planning to attend, please RSVP to Jennifer Murphy ( by April 15th.
