This Week's Sermon: Erik will continue our series on the Seven Deadly Sins with a sermon on Proverbs 28:25 and greed. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday's service.

Lent Resources: Today (Ash Wednesday) marks the start of Lent in the church calendar. We've pulled together several resources (including a family reading plan) that we hope will guide your worship during this season. Check out the resources right here on the City Church website.

Summer Internships: We are now accepting applications for three summer internships: a women’s ministry intern, a children’s ministry intern, and a discipleship intern. For more information on these internships (and for an application), visit this link. Applications are due March 15th.

Summer Missions Trips: We have three missions trips scheduled for this summer. In mid-June, Erik will lead a trip to Prague, and in July we will send teams to Granada and Chattanooga. Please visit this link for more information on these trips. To request an application, please email Val Catrow (

Congregational Meeting on March 1st: City Church will hold a congregational meeting on Sunday, 3/1, immediately after the celebration dinner for the Bourgeois family. The sole purpose of this congregational meeting will be to formally dissolve the pastoral relationship between John and City Church, so that he can begin work with RUF at Wake Forest University. Any questions can be directed to Erik (

Ash Wednesday Service: We will hold a service in observance of Ash Wednesday tonight at 7pm at All Saints Presbyterian Church (3000 Grove Avenue). All are welcome! (FYI: Childcare will not be provided during this service.)

Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer: dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. Please join us tomorrow, February 4th, at 7am to pray for individual needs, City Church, and for the city of Richmond. We’ll be meeting this week at the Church office, 3rd floor at Grace Covenant. Enter in the back entrance of building. Hope to see you there. (City Church prayer takes place every other Thursday.)

Farewell to the Bourgeois Family: All are invited to join us immediately after our March 1st service for a dinner in the Fellowship Hall to celebrate (and say goodbye) to John, Mary Clarke, Leo, and Mary Landon Bourgeois before they make the move to Winston-Salem. The main course will be catered by Kuba Kuba, but we will need people to bring dishes to supplement the menu. If you’re interested in helping out, please contact Lauren Cave ( or Leigh Anne Jenvey (

The Makers Series|Imagine: The Christian life is one that is rooted in our physical presence in the world, not just in aesthetic or spiritual ideas. So how does art invite us to live more concretely in this world, and invite others to do the same? How do we manage the tension between discipline (spiritual and physical) and expression in creating art? Join MakeRVA on Friday, February 27th from 7pm to 9pm at Third Church (600 Forest Avenue) to hear from Dr. James K.A. Smith and the Taylor Barnett Quartet. There is no cost to attend, but please RSVP. Then on Saturday, February 28th from 7pm to 9pm in Room 1107 in the VCU Academic Learning Commons (1000 Floyd Avenue), Dr. Smith will speak on Re-Imagining the Secular as part of a lecture series entitled Philosophy and Public Affairs, sponsored by the VCU Philosophy Department. This event will serve as the kick-off for Dr. Smith’s Makers|Imagine residency. For more details on what that will entail, keep an eye on MakeRVA’s Facebook page.

Mercy Fund on Sunday: We will take up a special mercy fund offering at Sunday’s service, as we always do on the last Sundayof the month. Whatever is given will be kept separate from our general budget and will be used to aid those in our congregation, and in our community, who have emergency needs. Please prayerfully consider what you might give.

Meals for the Fikes: Elliott James Fike was born on Sunday, February 1st at 10:06am. Elliott weighed in at 7 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20.25 inches long. We will provide meals for Adrienne, Jeremy, and (very excited!) big sisters Laurel and Juliana they adjust to life at home as a family of five. If you would like to serve them in this way, please visit–the log-in and password are Fike. Contact Kate Allen at with questions.
