PREPARE & CONNECT
This Week's Sermon: Erik will preach on John 18:12-27 this Sunday. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for this week's service.
City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics will take place on Friday, January 16th (7-9:30pm) and Saturday, January 17th (9:30-noon) at Grace Covenant. City Church Basics explains who we are as a church and what it means to be a member. It is a necessary step towards formally joining the church, although membership is not required. If you’re interested in taking part in this next session, please RSVP to Val Catrow (email@example.com). Contact Erik (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions.
Life of Ministry: This semester City Church will offer a 6 session exploration of how to make ministry a regular part of your life. This practical, discussion-based group will meet on Sunday mornings (from 9:30-11am) every other week beginning, January 25th. (The other dates are 2/8, 2/22, 3/8, 3/22, and 3/29.) Life of Ministry is open to all and will be particularly useful to those trying to live faithfully for God in Richmond. Topics will include: God's grace, suffering, calling, and the Church. For more information or to register, please contact Val Catrow (email@example.com).
City Groups: City Church is not a church with small groups, but a church of small groups. At City Church, we call these groups "City Groups." City Groups are a place where we are known and loved, and also a place from which we are sent out into the world. If you'd like to learn more or get connected, email John at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer: dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. Please join us tomorrow, January 8th, at 7am to pray for individual needs, City Church, and for the city of Richmond. We’ll be meeting this week at the Church office, 3rd floor at Grace Covenant. Enter in the back entrance of building. Hope to see you there. (City Church prayer takes place every other Thursday.)
Healing Prayer: We will hold a healing prayer time on Sunday, January 11th at 8pm in the City Church office (suite 304). We encourage anyone with chronic illnesses or conditions to join us to receive prayer and support. Contact Erik at email@example.com with questions.
Women's Social: The women of City Church are invited to join us on Tuesday, January 13th at 7:30pm for an evening of drinks, snacks, and desserts. We'll meet at 2221 Hanover Avenue, Apt B. Please feel free to extend this invitation to women who might be new to City Church--this will be a great time to spend time with old and new friends! Bring a bottle of wine or a snack to share!
The Makers Series | Embodied: The Christian life is one that is rooted in our physical presence in the world, not just in aesthetic or spiritual ideas. So how does art invite us to live more concretely in this world, and invite others to do the same? How do we manage the tension between discipline (spiritual and physical) and expression in creating art? Join us for the next Makers Series evening on Friday, January 16th at 7pm.at Third Church (600 Forest Avenue) as Jill Carattini (essayist and editor), Karen Watkins-Rios (dancer and teacher), and Sarah Kate Watson (singer and actress) share their work and explore how we embody the arts and live out an incarnational faith. For more information (and to RSVP) please visit the Facebook event page.
Nursery and Children's Worship Volunteers Needed! We are in need of at least 15 new nursery volunteers and at least 5 new Children's Worship volunteers for the February-May rotation. If you're interested in serving City Church in this way, please email Jennifer Murphy at firstname.lastname@example.org.
