Announcements, 9.10.14

This Week's Sermon: We'll return to our series on John with a sermon from Erik on John 13:1-20. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare yourself for Sunday's service.

City Groups: City Church is not a church with small groups, but a church of small groups. At City Church, we call these groups City Groups. City Groups are a place where we are known and loved, and also a place from which we are sent out into the world. Most City Groups are starting up this week, so if you'd like to learn more or get connected, email John at

>Thinking About...the Comon Good:As Common Good RVA gets closer, Erik wrote this blog post to share his thoughts on the common good and how working towards it with people from all walks of life “begins to build trust in places where the commonwealth has long eroded.” We hope you'll take a moment to read it.

Session Meeting: This month's session meeting will take place on Friday, September 12th. If you have any questions, concerns, or prayer requests you would like addressed, please contact Erik at

Feed Your Head: This Fall, we will be offering two Adult Christian Education classes. Getting Jesus Wrong (and Right) (9/21-10/26) will be a study on early church heresies and their relevance for our worship today. The Art of Neighboring (11/2-11/23) will be a workshop geared towards best practices for loving our neighbors. These classes will meet on Sundays from 2:30-3:30pm in room 303 at Grace Covenant. Email with questions.

Common Good RVA Tickets on Sale: Tickets for the 2014 Common Good RVA conference are now on sale at Common Good RVA is a two-part conference exploring how we can work for the common good of Richmond in our everyday lives. Part 1, a public exploration of the common good, will take place on Friday, October 3rd at 5pm at the Virginia Historical Society. Part 2, a deeper dive into faith, neighborhood, and vocation, will take place on Saturday, October 4th from 8:30am to 3pm at the Early Center at Union Seminary. Both events will feature local speakers as well as Skye Jethani, Executive Editor of Leadership Journal and author of Futureville. Tickets are $20 for Friday only, $30 for Saturday only, and $40 for Friday and Saturday until September 15th (price increases to $45 on September 16th).

Women's Bible Studies: Our Fall/Winter 2014 Women's Bible studies started up this week, but ladies are still welcome to join us! We are excited to study the book of Hebrews together. This book connects the Old and New Testaments together and helps us to see Christ as better and more important than everything. This letter is full of teaching and encouragement—teaching us about Christ and his work and encouraging us to persevere in the life of faith. We have two women’s Bible study options: Mondays at 7:30pm and Wednesdays at 9:30am. Childcare is available for the Wednesday morning study at a cost of $5 per child. Bible study booklets are $5 each. (Payments can be made via cash, check, or all major credit cards.) Please use THIS LINK to sign up! Email Meg Haden ( with questions.
