Announcements, 3.12.14

This Week's Sermon: Erik will preach on John 7:1-35 this week. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare yourself for this week's sermon.

Church Planting Blog Post: Church planting is one of City Church's core commitments. Please take a moment to read this blog post from Erik about our approach in supporting and encouraging church planters both in our area and around the world.

Lent Resources: We are currently in a season in the Church calendar called Lent. For people who didn’t grow up going to church or who grew up in churches that didn’t mark Lent, it can be confusing. We’ve pulled together some resources to guide you through your worship in the coming weeks. Please review them and let us know if you have any questions. Jennifer Murphy, our Director of Children's Ministry, has also put together a Lent devotional for parents to use with their children; copies are available in each nursery classroom.

Moved Recently? If you've recently moved (or changed your phone number, email address, etc.), please make sure we've got your up-to-date contact information. You can either email Val Catrow ( directly with your new info or fill out a visitor's card on Sunday and leave it in the offering box. Thank you!

3rd Annual City Church Banquet: An invitation to the 3rd Annual City Church Banquet was sent out last week, but you can access it here if you have already done so. The banquet will take place in Grace Covenant’s Fellowship Hall immediately after the service on Sunday, March 23rd. All are welcome to join us for this semi-formal, catered event when we will share a meal and celebrate all that God has done for and through our church over the last year. Please RSVP through the invitation linked above no later than Monday, March 17th. Contact Val Catrow ( with questions. All are welcome--members, attendees, newcomers, friends, family, neighbors, everyone!

Create During Lent: City Church member and artist, Kim Nix, is organizing an effort to get people to create something every day during the season of Lent. This discipline for artists (and non-artists) has the potential to draw us into deeper intimacy with God. Towards the end of Lent, on the evening of Saturday, April 5, participants are invited to meet at the Nix’s home for a discussion and celebration. If you’re planning to participate, please email Kim at; she will compile a list of those taking part and send them emails of encouragement and inspiration in the coming weeks.

Mercy Ministry Conference: As we continue to learn how to live out Christ’s merciful love to the marginalized in our city, we value opportunities to be with others who can offer training and support. One such opportunity is the 2014 Mercy Ministry Conference in Washington D.C from March 20th to 22nd. For those interested, a one-day registration is now available for Friday, March 21st (the cost will be $75). For more information, or to RSVP, please email (Financial support is available upon request.)

Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt: To mark our celebration of the Easter season with our kids and families, we will hold a special event open to all at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, on Saturday, April 5th at 9:30am. The event will include a special Walk through Holy Week for the kids as well as a brunch and an Easter Egg Hunt. This event provides a non-threatening opportunity to invite friends and neighbors to learn more about why the Church celebrates Easter.

Save the Date: Men’s Overnight! The City Church Men’s Overnight is Friday, May 9th. It will be held at Chanco on the James (located about forty-five minutes south of Richmond). Stay tuned for more details!

Give up a week of your summer vacation to serve the underserved with us! July 5th to 12th a team from City Church will go to Chattanooga to work with Hope for the Inner City. HFIC serves the inner-city of Chattanooga by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ and caring for the physical needs of the people there. Email for an application. Applications are due March 31.
