COMING UP THIS WEEK
This Week’s Sermon: This week Erik will preach on John 4:43-5:18. We invite you to read ahead to help prepare yourself for this week’s sermon.
City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics will take place this Friday (7-9:30) and Saturday (9:30-noon) at Grace Covenant. City Church Basics explains who we are as a church and what it means to be a member. It is a necessary step towards formally joining the church, although membership is not required. If you’re interested in taking part in this session, get in touch with Val at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have any questions, please contact Erik at email@example.com.
Painters Needed! A group will be getting together in the Children's Worship room (room 311) at Grace Covenant on Saturday morning to continue working on the mural. We will meet from 10:30am to 2:30pm; you're welcome to come for all or just part of the time. Snacks will be provided! Contact Jennifer Murphy (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you're interested in helping out.
Newcomers Reception: We will host a informational session for City Church newcomers this Sunday (January 19th) from 5:30-6pm in the parlor. This brief meeting will give those who are new to City Church a chance to meet some of the staff, meet other people new to City Church, and learn more about the church as a whole. Feel free to pass this info along to those who might be interested in attending.
Barnabas Training Basic: The Barnabas Center, a counseling center that City Church supports financially and through prayer, will host a training class entitled "Becoming a Better Spiritual Friend" on February 1st at West End Presbyterian Church (9008 Quioccasin Road). This biblically based seminar helps you understand others by gaining a biblical understanding of your own heart. It includes lectures and an interactive small group experience, plus reflective time to practically apply principles to one real-life friendship. Barnabas Training Basic forms the foundation for those who want further training in caring for others. The cost is $110. The training will be from 9am to 4pm with lunch out on your own. For more information (and to register), visit this link.
Mercy Ministry Conference (deadline extended): Members of the City Church diaconate will be headed to the 2014 Mercy Ministry Conference in Washington D.C from March 20th through 22nd and we’d love to anyone who is interested join us! The cost will be $200 (all inclusive). Please email email@example.com if interested by January 31st (this is a change). Financial support is available upon request.
Women’s Bible Study starts January 27th: Women’s Bible study will continue on Monday evenings at 7:30pm and Wednesday mornings at 9:30am beginning Monday, January 27th and Wednesday, January 29th; both studies will meet at Grace Covenant. This spring we will study the book of Proverbs together. Sign up online using this link. Contact Meg Haden (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions.
Women’s Ministry Leadership Team Training: This winter/spring, we will have women’s ministry leadership training–one Tuesday evening a month for 4 months. These meetings will be a time for us to share and learn together about leadership/service generally and how we can love and serve women at City Church specifically. This training will be a prerequisite for being a part of the women’s leadership team. Meetings will take place from 7:30-9pm on January 28th, February 25th, March 25th, and April 29th. Contact Meg Haden (email@example.com) if you are interested.
Grief Observed: Death is something we will all experience, but it’s difficult to accept and process – sometimes especially as Christians. How can we best support each other, Biblically equip ourselves against the pitfalls of grief, and help the church better engage with grievers? Over 3 Sunday mornings starting January 26th, Grief Observed will provide the framework for us to start answering those questions. Anyone is welcome. Please email Meg Haden, firstname.lastname@example.org, to sign up and learn more.
February Session Meeting: February’s session meeting will take place the evening of Sunday, February 9th. If you have any questions, concerns, or prayer requests you’d like addressed at this meeting, please contact Erik at email@example.com.
City Groups: City Church is not a church with small groups, but a church of small groups. At City Church, we call these groups City Groups. City Groups are a place where we are known and loved, and also a place from which we are sent out into the world. To learn more or get connected, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
