COMING UP THIS WEEK

This Week’s Sermon Text: This Sunday John will continue our Advent series with a sermon on Genesis 1:1-5. We invite you to read ahead to help prepare yourself for this week’s sermon.

Christmas Pageant, Dinner, and Sing-Along Spectacular: City Church’s annual Christmas Party is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th at 5pm in the Fellowship Hall of Grace Covenant. The Christmas Pageant will begin at 5:30; we’ll eat at around 6; and our Christmas carol sing-a-long will begin at 7. We are in need of volunteers to bring food. If you’re able to help out, please email Kate Allen at katelynnallen@gmail.com. We are also in need of 10-12 volunteers to serve City Church families and their guests by assisting during dinner and cleanup. Please contact Whitney Traynham at wtraynham87@gmail.com if you are interested in serving.

Hearing from Jennifer Disse: During the Living Our Faith portion of Sunday's service, City Church member Jennifer Disse will update us on her missionary work in South Sudan. There will also be a brief reception for Jenn following the service.

Budget Update Meeting: The City Church finance team will present an update on 2013-2014 budget for the first quarter of the fiscal year immediately after worship on Sunday, December 8th. This is your opportunity to get informed and ask questions. We will not have nursery/childcare during the presentation, but the playground will be open (please remember that at least one parent must be present with your child while on the playground).

NEW

Advent Resources: Last Sunday marked the beginning of Advent, the season of the church calendar leading up to Christmas. For more on Advent -- and for resources on how to make it a meaningful part of your December -- please read this post from Erik on the City Church website: Thinking About...Advent 2013.

High Street Hymns Benefit: There will be an Advent and Christmas Carol Hymsing on Thursday, December 12th at 8pm at Northminster Church (3121 Moss Side Avenue) to benefit High Street Hymns, a music ministry and band lead by Alex Mejias (we sing many of his songs and arrangements during our worship services). A $15 donation is suggested.

Caroling at Randolph Place Senior Housing Community: On Saturday, December 14th, we will join the residents at Randolph Place for caroling and a craft. We’ll meet at the Randolph Community Center (1415 Grayland Avenue) at 10am for coffee and donuts before heading over for the event. This is a great event for City Church members and attendees of all ages, so please join us!

December 15th Service: Due to a previously scheduled event at Grace Covenant, our worship service on December 15th will take place at Beth Ahabah (1117 W. Franklin Street). We will still meet at 4pm. Parking is available on the street and in the top level of the Beth Ahabah parking deck.

Christmas Eve Services: We will hold two Christmas Eve services at Grace Covenant: a 4pm Family Service and an 11pm Communion Service. There will be no childcare at either service.

City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics will take place the evening of Friday, January 17th (7-9:30), and the morning of Saturday, January 18th (9:30-noon). Church Basics explains who we are as a church and what it means to be a member. It is a necessary step towards formally joining the church, although membership is not required. If you’re interested in taking part in this session, get in touch with Val at val@citychurchrva.com. If you have any questions, please contact Erik at erik@citychurchrva.com.
