Announcements, 12.11.13

This Week’s Sermon Text: This Sunday Erik will continue our Advent series with a sermon on Isaiah 8:16-9:7. We invite you to read ahead to help prepare yourself for this week’s sermon.

December 15th Service: Due to a previously scheduled event at Grace Covenant, our worship service on December 15th will take place at Beth Ahabah (1117 W. Franklin Street). We will still meet at 4pm. Parking is available on the street and in the top level of the Beth Ahabah parking deck. For more information (including details on child care), please go here.

High Street Hymns Benefit: There will be an Advent and Christmas Carol Hymsing on Thursday, December 12th at 8pm at Northminster Church (3121 Moss Side Avenue) to benefit High Street Hymns, a music ministry and band led by Alex Mejias (we sing many of his songs and arrangements during our worship services). A $15 donation is suggested.

Caroling at Randolph Place Senior Housing Community: On Saturday, December 14th, we will join the residents at Randolph Place for caroling and a craft. We’ll meet at the Randolph Community Center (1415 Grayland Avenue) at 10am for coffee and donuts before heading over for the event. This is a great event for City Church members and attendees of all ages, so please join us!

Readers for 11pm Christmas Service: We will hold an 11pm Communion Service on Christmas Eve (more on that below) and we're looking for readers to take part in the service. If you're going to be in town and would like to participate, please contact John Bourgeois at

Advent Resources: December 1st marked the beginning of Advent, the season of the church calendar leading up to Christmas. For more on Advent — and for resources on how to make it a meaningful part of your December — please read this post from Erik on the City Church website: Thinking About…Advent 2013.

Christmas Eve Services: We will hold two Christmas Eve services at Grace Covenant: a 4pm Family Service and an 11pm Communion Service. There will be no childcare at either service.

City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics will take place the evening of Friday, January 17th (7-9:30), and the morning of Saturday, January 18th (9:30-noon). Church Basics explains who we are as a church and what it means to be a member. It is a necessary step towards formally joining the church, although membership is not required. If you’re interested in taking part in this session, get in touch with Val at If you have any questions, please contact Erik at

End-of-Year Contributions to City Church: Please note that all end-of-year contribution checks need to be in-hand or postmarked by December 31st to go towards 2013 deductions. Checks with a postmark of December 31st (or before) will be counted as 2013 giving if they are received no later than January 10th, 2014. Online gifts will still need to be made by December 31st (some credit cards take 3-5 business to process, so please take that into consideration).
