This Week’s Sermon Text: This Sunday Peter will preach on John 3:1-15. We invite you to read ahead to help prepare yourself for this week’s sermon.

Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer: dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. Please join us tomorrow, November 21st, at 7am to pray for individual needs, City Church, and for the city of Richmond. We'll be meeting this week at the Church office, 3rd floor at Grace Covenant. Enter in the back entrance of building. Hope to see you there. (City Church prayer takes place every other Thursday.)

Downtown Working Lunch: Our next Downtown Working Lunch will take place this Thursday, November 21st, from 12-1pm. If you haven't come before, the Downtown Working Lunch is a monthly conversation on the intersections of Christianity and our work. Bring a lunch and bring a friend.  We will meet in the conference room of Riverfront Investment Group (1214 E. Cary Street).

CommonGoodRVA — Educators’ Perspectives: CommonGoodRVA is hosting a panel discussion on education in Richmond, offering educators’ perspectives on their vocation and work for the common good of Richmond. Thursday, November 21st, 7:30 to 9:00PM at Veritas School (3400 Brook). For more information email or go to

Bless Richmond: On Sunday, November 24th at 6pm, representatives of the Christian community all over Richmond will gather at U-Turn Sports Performance Academy (2101 Maywill Street) to worship God, pray for our City, and collect food for the hungry. For more information on what to expect during this event and what you can contribute, visit

Mercy Fund on Sunday: We will take up a special mercy fund offering at Sunday’s service, as we always do on the last Sunday of the month. Whatever is given will be kept separate from our general budget and will be used to aid those in our congregation, and in our community, who have emergency needs. Please prayerfully consider what you might give.

Christmas Pageant Rehearsal Details: Our rehearsal for the Christmas Pageant will take place immediately after Sunday's service. We will gather in room B-7 the (Youth Center-Forum Class, last room on the left when walking down the basement hallway) to get the kids into their costumes and prep them for rehearsal. Children's Worship students will be taken directly downstairs after the service. Parents of Children's Worship graduates and parents of nursery children participating in the pageant, please bring your children down to this room as soon as possible after the service.

Christmas Party Volunteers Needed: We are viewing the Christmas party and pageant as an outreach opportunity and are looking for 10-12 volunteers to serve City Church families and their guests by assisting during dinner and cleanup on Saturday, December 7th from 6:00-8:30pm. Please contact Whitney Traynham at if you are interested in serving.

Budget Update Meeting: The City Church finance team will present an update on 2013-2014 budget for the first quarter of the fiscal year immediately after worship on Sunday, December 8th. This is your opportunity to get informed and ask questions. We will not have nursery/childcare during the presentation, but the playground will be open (please remember that at least one parent must be present with your child while on the playground).

City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics will take place the evening of Friday, January 17th (7-9:30), and the morning of Saturday, January 18th (9:30-noon). Church Basics explains who we are as a church and what it means to be a member. It is a necessary step towards formally joining the church, although membership is not required. If you’re interested in taking part in this session, get in touch with Val at If you have any questions, please contact Erik at

City Church Christmas Party and Pageant (we need volunteers to bring food!): City Church’s annual Christmas Party is scheduled for Saturday, December 7th at 5pm in the Fellowship Hall of Grace Covenant. The Christmas Pageant will begin at 5:30; we’ll eat at around 6; and our Christmas carol sing-a-long will begin at 7. We are also in need of volunteers to bring food and undecorated sugar cookies. If you’re able to help out, please email Kate Allen at

Christmas Pageant Invitations: At this year’s Christmas Party, the children of City Church will perform in our first ever Christmas Pageant. Both the party and pageant are great events to help introduce people to the City Church community. Please stop by the nursery on Sunday to pick up a few of our “ornament-invitations” and pass them along to your friends, family, and neighbors as a way to invite them to join in on the festivities!
