This week's sermon text: Erik will preach on Acts 19:1-20 on Sunday. We invite you to read ahead to help prepare yourself for this week’s sermon. *COMING UP THIS WEEK*
Downtown Lunch: Our next Downtown Lunch will take place on Thursday, September 20th from 12pm to 1pm. We will do a ‘bring your own’ lunch and meet in the conference room of Riverfront Investment Group located at 1214 E. Cary Street. Erik will speak for 5 to 10 minutes after which we’ll share a meal and a conversation around the table.
City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics is scheduled for Friday, September 21st (7pm to 9:30pm) and Saturday, September 22nd (9:30am to noon). Church Basics explains who we are as a church and what it means to be a member. It is a necessary step towards formally joining the church, although membership is not required. If you're interested in taking part in this session, please RSVP to Val at email@example.com. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Erik at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Parking on 9/23: St. James Episcopal Church is scheduled to start holding an evening service beginning Sunday, September 23rd. They have asked that from that Sunday on we only use the top level of the parking deck. There should be plenty of street parking available as well, but please plan ahead for that.
Vespers: Our monthly Vespers meeting and meal will take place on Sunday, September 23rd in the Beth Ahabah auditorium immediately after the service. This is a time for us to share a meal and talk more about the vision of City Church. During Sunday's meal the Uganda team will share stories, photos, and videos from their recent trip. Please bring a dish to share. Remember: no pork or shellfish products are allowed in Beth Ahabah.
Vespers volunteers needed: We are splitting Vespers into three shifts: set up, replenishment, and clean up. It's an easy 20 minute commitment that makes a HUGE difference! Please email Katie Spinks at email@example.com to sign up. We will also send an additional volunteer recruitment form later this week, so keep an eye out for it!
The American Cancer Society needs volunteers: The American Cancer Society provides free services and programs to cancer patients and their families, including wigs and cancer caps, a 24/7 on-call Dietician, and rides to treatment through our Road to Recovery program. Unfortunately, the Road to Recovery program is desperately lacking in volunteer drivers, leaving many patients unable to get to and from their cancer treatment appointments. If you are interested in being a volunteer driver or volunteering for the ACS in a different way, please contact Ginny Wescott at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Update from Jennifer Disse: Stop by the City Church website to read the latest update from Jennifer Disse, a City Church member and missionary currently serving in South Sudan.
No Children's Worship on 9/30: As September 30th is the fifth Sunday of the month, Children's Worship will not take place during that service. We encourage parents to worship with their children and to see it as an opportunity to teach them about the service. (Nursery care will still be available for ages 0 through 3.)
Save the date: City Church Harvest Party! City Church's annual Harvest Party is currently scheduled for Saturday, October 27th, starting at around 4pm, out at the Rumrills' country house in St. Stephens Church, VA. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more details. ALL are welcome!
Fall women's Bible studies: City Church's fall women's Bible studies started up this week, but you are still welcome to join us! We meet on Monday evenings at 7:30pm and Wednesday mornings at 9:30am (childcare provided at the AM study for a small fee). Both groups will meet at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church (1627 Monument Avenue). Please use this link to sign up--particularly if you're planning to attend the Wednesday study and are in need of childcare. Please contact Meg Haden (email@example.com) with any questions.
Worship service on 9/30: Due to the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, Beth Ahabah will be unavailable for our Sunday service on September 30th. City Church will meet at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church (1627 Monument Avenue) for that service. Childcare will still be available during those services. (As previously scheduled/mentioned, there will be no Children's Worship during this service).
Sign up for Women's Seminar featuring Paige Brown: Come join City Church women as we get to hear from renowned Bible teacher Paige Brown, as she reminds us of our encouragement in Jesus Christ and our need to serve him only, from I Kings 18 and 19. You do not want to miss this! Join us on Saturday, September 29th from 9am to noon, at All Saints Presbyterian (3000 Grove Avenue). Let us know you are coming by signing up at: www.citychurchseminar.
Build Tucker a Nursery: Tommy and Ellie Sibiga are in the process of finishing up Baby Tucker's nursery as he continues his stay in the NICU. If you're interested in helping them with some final projects, they are holding a work day at their home on Saturday, September 29th at 11am. For more information, stop by the Facebook event page. And as always, you can follow Tucker's progress (and to find out how you can be praying for them), visit Tommy and Ellie's blog: tommyandellie.com.
