Christian Formation Class on Missions

(From Jay McGee, City Church's missions team leader who will be teaching this class) What is God's plan for the world? What is God's purpose for the Church? In this 7-week course, we'll explore what God says about his own passion to be known among all the people of the world.

Really, this is a course about becoming a passionate person. Jesus lived a life of joy, hope, and unquenchable passion. The Bible reveals that he was passionate because he had a mission: to be glorified throughout the world. Christ invites us to experience the same purpose and passion. In John 4:34, Jesus says, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to accomplish His work." However, if we are honest, we know the work is not fully accomplished. Injustice is seen daily. Poverty continues. Hundreds of millions of people know nothing about Christ. Jesus left the work undone so that we, the Church, could take part in his work on earth. How do we do it? Where do we begin?

This course is not intended to convince people to become overseas missionaries. The point is to understand more of God's passion and mission for this world, and for us to become more passionate about the things that God is passionate about.

We will be studying portions of the Old and New Testaments, as well as readings from different authors on the topic of missions. Additionally, two of the weeks will be focused on learning about Islam, and the challenge of reaching Muslims.

This class will take place every Sunday from 2:45 to 3:45pm from April 3rd through the middle of May. We will meet in room 205 of Beth Ahabah's education wing. If you have questions, please contact Jay McGee at
