The beginning of the fourth and final act in the book of Ruth. Boaz acts in costly love as a redeemer foreshadowing Christ, the redeemer of bankrupt sinners.

Boaz’s recognition of Ruth and the down payment of seed he provides her is a picture to God’s recognition of us through Jesus and the down payment of the Spirit he provides us.

Ruth provides a picture of a worthy woman and leads us to consider Jesus, the one who makes his bride–the Church–worthy by his washing, his submission, and his risking all for her.

In Boaz’s favor towards Ruth we see a picture of God’s favor to us: the startlingly lavish, startlingly free, and startlingly relational grace of God.

Ruth goes out to glean and encounters a worthy man named Boaz who gives a picture of Jesus Christ, the true worthy man.
