Spring Christian Formation Class begins on Sunday: Our first Spring 2012 Christian Formation Class, Genesis: God and Man, How it All Began, will have its first meeting this Sunday immediately after church in the Joel House at Beth Ahabah. We plan to be finished by 6:20 in time for the Super Bowl. If you have any questions, please contact John Bourgeois at john@citychurchrva.com.

Downtown Lunch: Our next Downtown Lunch will take place on Thursday, February 16th from 12-1pm. We will do a ‘bring your own’ lunch and meet in the conference room of Riverfront Investment Group located at 1214 E. Cary Street. Erik will share for 5 to 10 minutes after which we’ll share a meal and a conversation around the table.

Save the Date: We are planning on having a women’s get-together on the evening of Wendesday, February 29th. More details to follow, but go ahead and mark your calendars!

City Groups: City Groups are smaller groups that meet at various times in people’s homes each week to experience Christ, share life, pray together and serve Richmond. If you’re interested in joining a City Group (or learning more about them in general), please contact John Bourgeois at john@citychurchrva.com.

Sound Training: After worship on Sunday, February 12th, Daniel White will conduct a training time for everyone who assists with our sound team. We are looking for a few more people to help. Uganda Missions Trip Meeting: There will be a meeting for all interested in hearing more about the Uganda missions trip (scheduled for August of this year) on Wednesday, February 15th at 7:30pm at the church office (1520 W. Deacond Ordination & Reception: We will ordain our newly-elected deacons (Andrew Bleckley, David Boyce, Patrick Shay, and Blake Stack) at this Sunday’s service. A reception will be held immediately after the service downstairs in the fellowship hall. Please bring an appetizer-type finger food (no pork, no shellfish).

Mercy Fund — THIS SUNDAY: As this is the last Sunday of the month, we will be taking contributions to our Mercy Fund. The Mercy Fund is kept separate from our regular budget and is used to provide financial support to members of our congregation and community who are in need. Please prayerfully consider what you might be willing to contribute

2011 Giving Receipts: The majority of receipts outlining 2011 giving were emailed out to individual households last Friday; those for whom we don’t have an email address will be mailed this week. If you have questions about your receipt or need further documentation, please contact Val at val@citychurchrva.com.

Meals for the Halls: Olivia and Andrew Hall welcomed Ephraim Louis Hall at 1:05pm on January 13th. Ephraim weighed in at 7 lb 11.5 oz. and was 21 inches long. We are coordinating meals for Olivia and Andrew over the next several weeks as they adjust to life at home with their new baby boy. Sunday’s service: Due to a previously scheduled event at Beth Ahabah, we will hold this Sunday’s service at our regular time (4pm) at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church. Grace Covenant is located just a few blocks up from Beth Ahabah at 1627 Monument Avenue. There is a parking lot with limited spaces located directly behind Grace Covenant, but street parking is also available. We will still hold Children’s Worship and provide nursery care during this service.

Congratulations, Deacons! Last Sunday the members of City Church elected Andrew Bleckley, David Boyce, Patrick Shay, and Blake Stack as deacons. seeJesus RUTH Seminar – January 21st & 22nd: West End Presbyterian Church (9008 Quioccasin Road) is hosting a RUTH Seminar on Friday, January 20th (6:15-9pm) and Saturday, January 21st (beginning at 8:30am). Paul Miller will lead this seminar focused on how Ruth’s story teaches us about the covenantal, binding love of God. The cost is $34 and includes materials and continental breakfast. CARITAS: We have a unique opportunity to serve the homeless of Richmond coming up starting on January 28th. As part of the CARITAS ministry, Bethlehem Lutheran — located one block from Beth Ahabah — will be sheltering homeless men from around Richmond through February 3rd. Volunteers (especially men) would be needed to stay overnight and extend hospitality to those coming to the shelter. We may also have an opportunity to help provide a meal during this week. Uganda Missions Trip: As announced during our worship service on Sunday, City Church is planning a missions trip to Uganda for August 2012. The team will be visiting and supporting the work at Living Hope Uganda (livinghopeug.org), a private Christian primary school with which City Church member, Jake Lyell, has been working closely. We are particularly looking for women who are interested in being a part of the trip. If you have questions or want more information, please contact James Murphy (jamesmurphyp@gmail.com).

Childcare workers needed for Mothers Together: Mother’s Together, a women’s bible study that meets on Thursday mornings and is attended by several women from City Church, is looking for more childcare workers to watch the little ones while we meet! Childcare workers work from 9:15-11:45am on Thursday mornings, and the positions are paid. Please contact Katie Pitcher if you’re interested: 616.403.2975 or katiep14@gmail.com.

Loaves & Fishes – January 15th: Our next opportunity to serve the homeless community through Loaves & Fishes will be on Sunday, January 15th. Loaves and Fishes is a practical way for us as a church community to demonstrate Christ’s love to those in need of a meal in our city. We do this at the Conrad Center (1400 Oliver Hill Way) on the third Sunday of every month from 11am-2pm. If you have any questions, please contact Ingrid deRoo at ingrid.a.deroo@gmail.com.

Welcome, Meg Haden! We are excited to announce that the Session has hired Meg Haden to work part-time as Director of Women’s Ministry. Working closely with other staff and the Session, Meg will be responsible for leading a team of women to coordinate our discipleship and pastoring of women at City Church. Meg brings a wealth of knowledge and ministry experience from her seven years on staff with Reformed University Fellowship at the University of Texas. Please welcome Meg into her new role and reach out to her with any questions or ideas you have. (Her email is meg [at] citychurchrva.com).
