“When Helping Hurts” book discussion
In our efforts to alleviate the complex social problems facing our city and our world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and to wonder if our efforts to help end up hurting us and the very people we seek to help. This fall Blake Stack will be leading the Mercy and Justice Team in a discussion of the book, “When Helping Hurts”. The largely self-paced study will meet four times. The first meeting is Sunday, September 12, at 2:30 PM at the church building (822 W. Franklin Street). For more information, email Blake at blakestack [at] yahoo.com. Limited books remain.

Meet & Eat THIS SUNDAY
Following Sunday’s service a group from City Church will be heading to Little Mexico (at the intersection of Cary & Harvie) for dinner. If you’re relatively new to City Church, this meal offers a chance to get to know some people a bit better.

Mercy Fund THIS SUNDAY
As this week’s service is the last Sunday of the month, we will be taking contributions to our Mercy Fund. The Mercy Fund is kept separate from our regular budget and is used to provide financial support to members of our congregation and community who are in need. Please prayerfully consider what you might be willing to contribute.

City Church Basics, 9/17 & 9/18

Gilpin Games, 8/21 — Volunteers needed!
City Church will help host the Gilpin Games from 9am to 1pm on August 21 (that’s this Saturday). The Gilpin Games will assist the children and families of G. W. Carver Elementary School by providing them with information and school supplies to prepare for the upcoming school year. It’s also a blast to be a part of! We would love for you to help by volunteering the day of the event, distributing fliers on August 14 at 10am, or bringing or finding event supplies such as sports equipment, a raffle item, or a grill from home. If you would like to help in any way, please contact Nate Mathews (nathan.t.mathews [at] gmail.com).

Vespers, 8/22
All are invited to join us for our monthly Vespers service immediately following the service on Sunday. This is a time for us to share a meal and discussion about various events and opportunities within the church. Please bring a dish to share!
