Why City Groups?

City Church isn’t just a worship service. City Groups are smaller groups that meet at various times in people’s homes each week to experience Christ, share life, pray together and serve Richmond. City Groups serve City Church by creating a context for us to live out our community outside of Sunday afternoons.

What Happens in City Groups?

Experience Christ. Share. Pray. Serve.

Experience Christ in our midst.

City Groups are a place where people can experience the presence and power of Christ. Each week we “digest” the previous Sunday’s sermon together, discussing its implications for our own lives as well as for our city and culture.

Share life and truth.

City Groups come together once a week for a 1 to 2 hour-long meeting held in homes and apartments in Richmond. Group members develop meaningful relationships with one another. Our groups also build relationships with those outside the Christian community, inviting friends, colleagues, and local neighbors to various community activities.

Pray for one other and for the City of Richmond.

Each groups sets aside time to pray for our individual needs and circumstances as well as for the needs of our city and world.

Serve our City.

Group members serve the physical, material, and emotional needs of their neighbors both inside and outside the group. We serve one another within the group through deeds of compassion (e.g., babysitting, help with moving, etc.), and we serve our local neighbors and neighborhoods through service activities conducted every month.
