PREPARE & CONNECT
This Week's Sermon: Our "Songs of Summer" series continues this week as Erik preaches on Psalm 13. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday's service.
New City Church Pastor! With great excitement we want to introduce Joshua Earman as City Church’s new pastor, effective July 5th. Joshua is married to Katie and they have four children: Anna (9), Beth (8), Eva (6), and Isaac (4). Both Joshua and his wife Katie are natives of Virginia and graduates of James Madison University. After working with Cru for 8 years (in Harrisonburg and in China), the Earmans went to St. Louis where Joshua attended Covenant Seminary. For the last two years they have lived and ministered at a church outside of Philadelphia. We look forward to their move to Richmond and ask you to pray for them during this time of transition. If you are interested in seeing Joshua’s resume or the description for his role at City Church, please contact Val (email@example.com). For general questions about Joshua joining the City Church staff, feel free to contact Erik (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Backyard Bible Club Registration: Our first-ever Backyard Bible Club (BBC) is coming in July! Kids ages 4 through 5th grade graduates are invited to join us July 6th through 10th at Scuffletown Park from 6pm to 7:30pm to sing songs, play games, and learn more about Jesus and His love for them! The registration form can be found right here on the City Church website. And please encourage your kids to invite their friends! If you have questions about BBC, please contact Jennifer Murphy at email@example.com.
Sign Up for Text Message Updates: You can now opt-in to receive updates and reminders from City Church via text message. Don’t worry, we won’t be blowing up your phone every five minutes. The plan is to use this as a means to communicate important pieces of information quickly. To opt-in, Text the phrase @citychurch to 23559. You should receive a confirmation message within a few seconds.
Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer: dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. This summer we will pray through selected Psalms together, learning how to use these Biblical songs to shape how we talk with God and how we live into the Christian story. Please join us tomorrow, June 25th, at 7am to pray. Meet in the Church office, 3rd floor at Grace Covenant. Enter in the back entrance of building. We hope to see you there. (City Church prayer takes place every other Thursday.)
Summer Bible Studies Cookout!: Summer Bible studies are on a break next week, but join us for a cookout! We will provide the burgers, hot dogs, and buns — please bring a side or drink to share. Join us Tuesday, June 30, at 7pm at Doug McBride’s house: 1406 Little John Road 23227. All are welcome! Contact Doug McBride (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Jenna Murphy (email@example.com) with questions.
EEPTHC Walk for Life: The East End Pregnancy Test and Help Center would like to invite you to participate in our first Walk for Life. Join us for a non-competitive 1.5 mile walk and family-friendly picnic celebration. To be held June 27th, 9am, gathering at Patrick Henry Park (25 and E. Broad Streets). For more information or to register online, please visit rva4life.org or contact Mary Ann Copetillo at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Backyard Bible Volunteer Meeting on Sunday (DINNER PROVIDED!) All those planning to volunteer with Backyard Bible Club, please plan on staying for a brief meeting immediately after this Sunday's service. We will use this time to talk about logistics and remaining preparation tasks before BBC kicks off on July 6th. We will meet in the Children's Worship room (3rd floor) and pizza will be provided. Please RSVP using this form.
Wednesday Morning Playdate: We have a standing Wednesday morning playdate throughout the summer at Lombardy Park (intersection of Lombardy and Park). We’ll meet at 9:30, but feel free to come and go as you can. Contact Adrienne Fike (email@example.com) with questions.
Welcome, Baby Murphy! Micah Ellis Murphy was born on Sunday, June 21st weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces and measuring 20 inches long. We will provide meals for Jennifer, James, and Micah's proud big brothers, Jack and Eli, for several weeks as they adjust to life at home as a family of five. If you're interested in serving them in this way, please visit takethemameal.com. The log-in and password are 'murphy'. Contact Valerie Catrow (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions.
Mercy Fund on Sunday: We will take up a special mercy fund offering at Sunday’s service, as we always do on the last Sunday of the month. Whatever is given will be kept separate from our general budget and will be used to aid those in our congregation, and in our community, who have emergency needs. Please prayerfully consider what you might give.
Volunteer with Backyard Bible Club! We are in need of several volunteers to make BBC possible, so we hope you’ll consider offering your time. Some volunteer positions require daily attendance, while others allow you to be more selective about which days you can serve. We are so grateful for any time you can give! To sign up, please visit this link. If you have questions volunteering with BBC (or BBC-related questions in general), please contact Hannah Sullivan at email@example.com or Gretchen Mull at firstname.lastname@example.org.
