PREPARE & CONNECT

This Week's Sermon: We will continue our series on John this week as Erik preaches on John 15:1-17. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare yourselves for Sunday's service.

2nd Annual City Church Christmas Pageant: This year's Christmas Pageant will take place on Saturday, December 6th here at Grace Covenant. If you would like your child to participate, please contact Jennifer Murphy at jennifer @citychurchrva.com. We will also be having "pageant work days" on October 18th and November 15th for those interested in helping with costumes and sets. Contact Jennifer for details.

Art for Advent: To accompany City Church’s 2014 Advent Theme, we’re issuing a call for artwork across various media to further our worship of God in the time of waiting for the coming of Jesus. This year’s theme is O Come, O Come, Emmanuel and it will be build around four verses of the familiar Advent hymn. Advent begins on November 30th, so we will need submissions by November 23rd. City Church Harvest Party: City Church's Annual Harvest Party will be on Saturday, October 25th out at the Rumrills' farm. The party begins at 4pm, with dinner starting promptly at 5:30. For details -- including directions, what to bring, and what to expect -- please visit the City Church website.

Art and Faith Discussion with Esther Mahlangu: At City Church we believe that the arts and artists have an important role to play in the renewal of our city. Interested in talking about this with some fellow City Church goers? The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts recently commissioned South African artist, Esther Mahlangu, to paint two large murals in their African galleries. Women's Retreat: Registration for the Fall Women's Retreat is now open! It will take place Saturday and Sunday, November 8th and 9th, at Roslyn RetreatCenter here in Richmond (www.roslyncenter.org). This will be a wonderful time to be with old and new friends and develop community with other women at City Church. Our speaker will be Paula Rinehart, a counselor and author of Strong Women, Soft Hearts and Better Than My Dreams. Registration costs include meals and lodging. Food for Thought: The Richmond Center for Christian Study presents "Food for Thought: A Biblical Perspective on the Food Industry from a Third-Generation Alternative Farmer" with Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms. On-Call Workers Needed for Nursery and Children's Worship: We are still in need of on-call workers for nursery and children's worship for this volunteer rotation. On-call workers are scheduled to serve as last-minute fill-ins should our regular volunteers be unable to serve. If you're interested in a low-commitment but greatly valued volunteer opportunity here at City Church, this is it! Please contact Jennifer Murphy (jennifer@citychurchrva.com) for more details.

Randolph Community Center After School Program: Out of Christ’s love, members of City Church are partnering with the Randolph Community Center to serve as mentors and tutors in their after school program! (Think of CHAT, but just a few blocks away from City Church!) This is an exciting opportunity to love on kids in our local neighborhood by helping them with their homework and teaching them something new and exciting (i.e. art, sports, music, etc.)! Blake Stack is currently looking for volunteers who can commit to serving one day a week from 4pm to 6pm For more information, please email him at blakestack@icloud.com.

Richmond Justice Initiatve in Need of Moving Help: Richmond Justice Initiative (RJI), a City Church ministry partner, will soon be moving offices and is in need of help with painting and removing tile. If you're interested in taking part, please contact Ben Morehead at ben.h.morehead@gmail.com.

Helping Without Hurting: This one-day event offers a gospel-centered approach to poverty alleviation, looking at the spiritual, financial, and social challenges of the poor.
