COMING UP THIS WEEK
This Week’s Sermon Text: This Sunday Erik will preach on John 1:35-42. We invite you to read ahead to help prepare yourself for this week’s sermon.
Food for this Weekend: Don't forget that we've got two events this weekend (the Harvest Party and the Ordination Reception--more on both below) to which we're asking everyone to bring a dish to share. We appreciate you helping out with this so we can break bread together as a church family!
City Church Harvest Party: City Church’s Annual Harvest Party is scheduled for Saturday, October 26th at 4pm. We’ll meet out at Smithfield (the Rumrill family's farm) to share a meal, play some games, and enjoy each other’s company. Please bring a side or dessert to share, as well as chairs and blankets. That evening we will also hold City Church’s 2nd Annual Pie Contest, complete with a panel of judges and prizes for the top pies. Email Liz Morton (email@example.com) with questions. See this post on the City Church website for more details and for directions to the party.
Ordination Reception: Following worship on Sunday, October 27th, we will have an Ordination Reception in the Fellowship Hall to celebrate our new Associate Pastor, elders, and deacons. All are welcome! If you are interested in bringing an appetizer or dessert to share, we would love your help! Please contact Annie MacKimmie (firstname.lastname@example.org) to let her know what you’d like to bring.
Mercy Fund on Sunday: We will take up a special mercy fund offering at Sunday’s service, as we always do on the last Sunday of the month. Whatever is given will be kept separate from our general budget and will be used to aid those in our congregation, and in our community, who have emergency needs. Please prayerfully consider what you might give.
Creativity, Power, and Our Christian Calling (with Andy Crouch): The Richmond Center for Christian Study presents “Restoring the Image: Creativity, Power and Our Christian Calling,” with Andy Crouch (Executive Editor of Christianity Today and author of Playing God: Redeeming the Gift of Power and the award-winning Culture Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling). This event will take place on at 7pm on Wednesday, November 6th at Reveille United Methodist Church (4200 Cary Street Road). There will also be an optional dinner with Andy at 6pm (pre-registration required). Refreshments and childcare provided. Register and get details at richmondstudycenter.org or call 804-852-5151.
City Church Christmas Pageant: As a way to kick-off this year’s Christmas party, the kids of City Church will put our first-ever Christmas Pageant! The pageant will take place on Saturday, December 7th at 5:30pm in the Fellowship Hall at Grace Covenant; the party will begin right after the pageant ends at around 6. We will also hold a brief rehearsal after our regular service on Sunday, November 24th. Kids of all ages (steady walkers and up) are invited to take part. More information on this will be coming soon, but feel free to email our co-directors Liz Morton (email@example.com) and Lauren Mathews (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions.
