Gilpin Games — Volunteers & Donations Needed! City Church will be helping STEP (Strategies to Elevate People) with the Gilpin Games this year on Saturday, August 20th from 9am to 12pm, and we’re looking for volunteers. For those of you not familiar with the Gilpin Games, this one day, back-to-school event provides us with an opportunity to get to know residents of Gilpin Court (a 750-unit housing project north east of the VCU/City Church area) and provide the kids with much-needed school supplies. Volunteers are needed to help run the game stations, distribute backpacks, lead groups of kids, and more. For more info, contact Nate Mathews at nathan.t.mathews [at] gmail.com. If you are unable to help out with Gilpin Games but still want to contribute to the event, you can always donate school supplies! Items we’re looking for are: backpacks, crayons 8 ct, blunt tip scissors, boxes of tissues, composition notebooks, one subject spiral notebooks, pocket folders, zipper pencil pouches, Elmer’s glue (4oz.), No. 2 pencils, rulers, and glue sticks. Please bring donations to our regular August 14th church service. Contact Valerie Warshaw valeriewarshaw [at] gmail.com for more information.
